Local high school and collegiate sports help to build and strengthen a community, so following them can prove to be beneficial. We will supplement our weekly presentations with group projects that focus on local coverage of high school and collegiate athletic events. You will be assigned the task of creating a news story that revolves around a local (within the state) collegiate or high school athletic team. The news story can range from basic, such as a team biography and statistical recap, to something much more in depth, such as the hiring of a new coach and his or her impact on the team. Video projects with interviews and commentary are greatly encouraged for these projects. Suggestions and requirements are found below.
SUGGESTED APPROACHES
- Video Coverage - interview athletes and coaches. Provide important statistical information pertaining to team. Analyze upcoming matchups.
- Audio Podcast - same as above, but done in a format more conducive to a radio or online broacast.
- Written News Coverage - same as above, but done in a newspaper article format. Must include images.
CONTENT REQUIREMENTS
Each project should address the following pieces:
1. School Information
a. Location
b. Mascot
c. Size, classification, league, conference, etc...
d. Historical impact (previous championships, titles, records, dubious information, etc...)
2. Athletic Information
a. Sport of interest, division, league, etc....
b. Current standings, record
c. Notable matchups, results, upcoming matchups
d. Statistical information, leaders, captains, league standings, etc...
3. Story

b. Mirror news articles - interviews of players, coaches, and fans are encouraged.
c. Recap of focal information.
4. Closure
a. What does this story mean for the future of the team?
